This snuff can only be made when the Samauma trees are flowering, as the scent of the blossoms is very fragile. The Samauma tree is very tall and the maker must wait for the flowers to fall naturally to the ground to be able to collect them. He must go into the forest before dawn to collect them before the creatures of the forest devour them or they wilt in the sun.
The Samauma is regarded as the ‘Mother of all Trees’ and the ‘Queen of the Forest’ among some Amazonian cultures. It is the largest tree, providing shade to others. This tree has a strong spiritual reputation and has always been present in indigenous rituals and myths. Some traditions teach that Samauma is the abode of spirits that live within the wood. It is also popularly known as ‘Tree of Life’ or ‘Ladder of Heaven’, making the connection between Heaven and Earth. For these reasons, this Samauma Rappé is a snuff that can impart very strong spiritual connection and protection.
